The 2020 edition of the west African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) has been suspended indefinitely. This may come as no surprise to many as it is evident that the Covid-19 pandemic has forced the world to its knees.
Many countries around the globe have closed down schools and have advised citizens against public gatherings -large or small, in an attempt to curb the transmission of the virus and save lives. As many schools have closed down all over the world, it’s evident that most academic activities have been halted.
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) – official administrators of the exam operate in 5 anglophone West African Countries. Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone and the Gambia are the countries that run the exam. However, schools have been shut down and the disease is rapidly spreading, forcing WAEC to suspend the exam indefinitely to protect the health of the students and teachers.
